Welcome

It is the goal of the East Troy Geek Squad to bring forth the capabilities of technology and present them in a manageable, clear, and understandable way. We do understand that sometimes it may seem like the confusion, hassle, quirks, and even risks of using technology outweigh the benefits, but we're here to change that.

Blogger 2.0

The great thing about Blogger is that you can give people access to your blog or have an entire class working on a single blog.  One problem: it seems to not work.

Briefly explained, Blogger does not behave like Google Drive.  When you share a document on Drive, that individual has access immediately.  With Blogger, that person is sent an email with a link, and they do not get to be an author until they accept the invitation.  Students in our district cannot receive emails from Blogger, so I've come up with this workaround that requires a personal Gmail account, explained in this video:

Steps in this video:

  1. Go to blog settings
  2. Where it says add authors, type your Gmail address.  After your username, but before the @ symbol, type a +1.  Repeat for how many invitations you need, replacing the +1 with a +2, +3, +4, etc.  Example:
    username+1@gmail.com
    username+2@gmail.com
    username+3@gmail.com
    username+4@gmail.com
  3. Blogger will send out X amount of invitations.
  4. Gmail will deliver all of these messages to "username@gmail.com," ignoring the +1, +2, etc.
  5. You will receive X amount of links to become an author of your blog
  6. Copy these links to a Google Document and share it with the students you wish to add to your blog.  Copy each link only ONCE.
  7. Once a student uses a link, it cannot be used again, so have that student write their name by it or delete it.
  8. The invite will add the blog to the account they were signed into, even though the invite was not sent to them.
