Welcome

It is the goal of the East Troy Geek Squad to bring forth the capabilities of technology and present them in a manageable, clear, and understandable way. We do understand that sometimes it may seem like the confusion, hassle, quirks, and even risks of using technology outweigh the benefits, but we're here to change that.

Geek Week 1ish

Week 1 of any school year is all about remembering your locker combination, making sure you're in the right classroom, and getting used to wearing shoes again.

Week 2 is when is when it all really begins, which begs the question: How was Week 2 (really week 1) of ETGeekdom? How was the kick off to this grand experiment called ET Geek Squad?

If Fel can speak for Fel (which she generally does), she will declare it spectacular.

Were we busy? (the question had been ruminating in the recesses of our collective Geek nogin: Will we have enough to do? And the answer is "umm...yeah!" as we face our constantly growing whiteboard of "to do's"

Here's some of what we faced in Week 1ish:

- We tended to sick Chromebooks: we nurtured them, giving them metaphorical chicken soup and the Geek love they deserved.
- We dabbled in the art of Cord Management: Logeli (Eli and Logan, that is) tended to colossal wads of cords and cables, making our classroom thoroughfares safe for children and teachers everywhere.
- We explored Chromebook video-making extensions to find the right tool for Mr. Wegener's students to create rhetorical argument commercials (jury is currently out on the ability of Chromebooks to handle video editing btw)
- We messed with a locked iPad video trying to find its way into Movie Maker (success!) and ultimately onto the ETHS televisions for a Trojan Store commercial (a Brittany & Lorith stint).
- We found out how to take and edit photos on the Chromebooks (upcoming blogpost, Brittany?)
- We made uber professional and Geek Squad-worthy ID badges soas not to be stopped by the Resource Police in the halls (three cheers for Eli!)
- We ate scotcheroos (let it be known that Geeks like Scotcheroos)
- We manned (or personed, or Geeked?) the first TLC Tuesday (Technology Learning & Collaboration) where we presented Google Presentations. Three Geeks came along (3:15-4:30) to provide teacher support. Thanks Adam and Logeli! : )
- We solved the mystery of Document Cameras not playing well with SMART Boards
- We discussed and decided that our mission is not to do things for people, but rather to teach them how to do things. (Give a Man a Fish...)  We aim to empower technology users with knowledge. Fel wholeheartapproves of this philosophy.

- We completed week 1 of this, our Geek Speak blog. (btw, Fel way approves of her Geeks' smart, witty, and conversational blog voices).
- We began a Google Form which each Geek will submit weekly to monitor and reflect on his/her weekly Geek contributions.

Fel's conclusions about Week 1ish:
  1. If Week 1ish is an indication of things to come of ET Geekdom, Fel is feeling very good about what  ET Geeks will accomplish this year.
  2. Fel believes a firm foundation has been set for ET Geekdom (a blogpost coming soon on what we  accomplished this summer).
  3. Fel likes writing about herself in the first person.

  1. Adam feels bad for the lack of his name on the list. He spent too much time fussing with a printer.

  3. Ah, but re-read...Fel made an Adam reference after the TLC Tuesday bit and she shall now make a public proclamation that Adam extended upon Fel's presentation, politely adding tips to the cheering masses AND he messed with the Chromebook printer, something Fel herself has been avoiding inexcusably.

  4. He already reread it. His statement stands.
